Goal
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- understand how databases and data stores work, which allows to employ state-of-the-art management techniques based on data management
- demonstrate insight into the key concepts and techniques is SQL and data visualization
- serve as a reference point with regard to these topics and data analysis in general
- use SQL to retrieve data from database systems, to gain insights from these data and transform data to make effective organizational decisions
- create creative solutions using the datasets available to solve real managerial problems
- provide insightful stories or dashboards in Tableau that allow visualizing and taking advantage of the opportunities and challenges for companies

Presentation
Students will learn how relational databases are used in companies to store important data. They will use the structured query language (SQL) to retrieve data from a database, transform it and gain actionable insights into the business. Once the basic of data modelling has been studied, students will also be able to create databases and schemes themselves. Tableau will be used to make advanced visualizations of data, so that students can visualy inspect data but also meaningfully present their insights to non-technical stakeholders. As such, the students are provided with state-of-the-art techniques allowing them to be a speaking board when it comes to data analysis.

Evaluation
The students will be evaluated based on several aspects:
- participation in the exercises to be made at home. Feedback on these exercises is given in general, but not explicitly to single students. It can be requested at any time by the students if needed
- a final exam to measure the capacity to apply the constucts learned in class. Feedback will be given on request.
- a group project that is also evaluated with peer evaluation
- an individual project
