Présentation

Prerequisite
Each day will start with a lecture and discussions whereafter the students will work on their project under supervision from the lecturer. The student will be evaluated on class participation and the project work.
Goal
*The course objective is to cover the lean strategy/concepts and to give the students a solid understanding of the different analytical tools necessary to implement a lean solution to a problem. As a result, the goals and objectives are as follows:

1) Understand the concept of lean
2) Describe how a company can apply the lean concept a given situation (Production/Service)
3) Understand the differences between lean and other optimization projects
4) Identify necessary parameters for using lean
5) Understand the lean tools
6) Understand limitations and advantages of lean
7) Discus the lean concept in relation to the Industry 4.0 concept
8) Learn to apply common sense

*To present and demonstrate their understanding of the material, the students will work on a case study.

*Objectives 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 are linked to AACSB learning objectives.
Presentation
The Lean Production Principle is introduced and applications from industrial companies, organizations as well as the health care and service area are discussed. The main idea is to focus on the customer and what makes the product or service valuable for the customer. Which activities is the customer willing to pay for? All activities/processes which are not adding value to the product or service have to be eliminated or minimized. Value might be different from quality. During the course the students will obtain an understanding for what the lean production principle is and through a project make suggestions for how lean can be implemented in a given case and in a given organization. The maintaining and continuation of lean will be discussed.
At the same time the students will focus on advantages and disadvantages in lean.
