Goal
1. Understand the objectives of a selection process, and the various selection tools that organizations can employ to select employees
2. Develop selection tools such as structured interview questions
3. Explain what is required for an employee selection tool to be reliable and valid, and how to match selection criteria to the most appropriate selection methods
4. Compare the advantages, disadvantages and applicability of different selection tools
5. Describe various decision strategies for selection
6. Develop a multi-stage selection process for a selected mid-level professional job
7. Describe and evaluate best practices used by leading companies
8. Appreciate how employee selection decisions must be consistent with organizational strategy and other HR practices
Presentation
This course will explore the vital role of employee selection in enabling organizational success. We will explore how selection strategy should be aligned with organizational strategy and other HR functions. We will investigate the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of various selection methods. Students will develop multi-stage selection processes for selected jobs, and will research best practices in selection being used at leading international firms. Finally, we will examine various aspects of the selection process from the perspective of general managers, HR professionals and job applicants.

Deep-level understanding can only accurately measured if there are multiple assessments of varying formats. Further, this strategy allows students of different learning styles to demonstrate their mastery. As such, this class will use individual papers, class participation, and team presentations to assess learning outcomes
