Prerequisite
Course taught in English (No pre-requisite in French is required although it is advised that students register for a French language course).
Goal
Gain an in-depth knowledge of contemporary French society;
Gain further confidence in order to interact with native speakers in professional, academic and social contexts .
Presentation
The course covers the following topics :
- Paris, a multifaceted city (Landmarks; architecture; The sociology of Parisian 'arrondissements' and near suburbs).
- French political institutions and the role of the State.
- The French society (e.g. education system, work, family, religion, leisure, arts, culinary habits) depicted in the media and literature.
- Metropolitan France and overseas regions
