Goal
(1) Understand Human Resource Management (HRM), HRM concepts, techniques and trends, and explain why knowing tehm is important
(2) Explain the key concepts and techniques related to HR planning, recruitment and selection
(3) Understand and explain the training process, describe various training methods, and identify issues related to training implementation and evaluation
(4) Explain the purpose, methods, and potential problems in performance management and appraisal
(5) Understand the factors determining pay decisions, job evaluation, and explain the (dis)advantages of various incentive schemes
(6) Have better awareness of contemporary HRM issues, as well as ESRS topics such as ethical considerations in HRM, how to design ethical HR practices and influence ethical behavior at work

Presentation
This is an introductory course on human resource management (HRM). It explores a number of HRM themes including (Session 1) HRM and strategy, (Sessions 2 & 3) workforce planning, recruitment and selection, (Session 4) training and development, (Session 5) performance management, (Session 6) compensation, (Sessions 7 & 8) Special contemporary topics on HRM and (Session 9) a wrap-up session.

Evaluation
The course assessment consists of four components: (1) participation during the sessions (20%); (2) 3 individual pre-class assignments (30%); (3) a group assignment (25%); (4) a final MCQ exam (25%)
Students are given written feedback on all individual assignments. They are also free to consult the professor on the details of their participation grade. General ongoing feedback and coaching sessions are also held regarding the group assignment.
