Présentation

Prerequisite
Knowledge acquired during preparatory classes

- Classification of atoms, energy shells, structures of the matter (crystallography, connections)
- Oxidation-reduction, activation energy, thermochemistry (internal energy, enthalpy and free enthalpy)
- Mechanical properties of materials (elasticity, yield strength, etc.)
Goal
Students are to gain the knowledge necessary to understand and predict material behaviour, by understanding the links between microstructures and macroscopic properties.
Presentation
- Atomic and molecular architecture, elasticity and yield strength, crystalline defects and diffusion, plasticity and crystalline defects, main material classes, phase diagrams, characterization techniques

Modalités

Forms of instruction
- Course documents in PowerPoint format and/or handouts ; - Intranet upload of PowerPoint and Practical Work course instructions ; - Practical work: Pb-Sn or Bi-Sn phase diagrams, chemical analysis of aluminium alloys, characterization methods (mechanical tests, Vicat, MFI, atomic absorption, HdT, etc.)*, IRFT measurement of polymers (with identification of the resin family and thickness measurement of thin films), strain hardening of aluminium alloys and evolution of grain size during traction, metallography, Cu/Zn diffusion, thermistors (ceramics), synthesis of PA66 and PA610 and characterization (IR and DSC), corrosion (intensity-potential curve) * some analyzing techniques depend on the specialization of the establishment
