Mathematics for business
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
* conduct a full descriptive analysis, using all the relevant statistics and plots, deal with non symmetrical distributions and then interpret all the results,
* acquire the knowledge to test hypotheses using the selected statistical methods,
* have knowledge to handle metric and non-metric data and use the appropriate inferential methods,
* set up and analyze regression models and assess the resulting model critically,
* acquire the ability to include in knowledge the notion of Uncertainty and that of Ethics,
* use a statistical software (Excel) and, by extension, have the ability to interpret and demonstrate the results obtained by any statistical software
Topics will include:
PART 1 Descriptive Statistics :
Statistical analysis of Univariate and Bivariate data using graphical and numerical methods
Probability. Variables and distributions: Normal distribution, t distribution,Binomial distribution,
PART 2 Inferential Statistics
• Sampling distribution and Central Limit Theorem
• Statistical Inference: Confidence Interval for one and two population averages
Confidence Interval for one and two population proportions
• Hypothesis testing
1. Testing for one-population average and for one population proportion (z, t test).
2.Testing for significant association between a dummy categorical variable and a
quantitative variable (t- pooled test, t test for two population means with unequal variances)
3. Testing for significant relation between two qualitative data sets.
4.Linear simple regression :Testing for significant association between two quantitative variables
