They should familiarize themselves with the decision-making process in a bank. They should therefore be able to make effectual organizational decisions and organize change management processes. They should have learnt to price credit and deposit products, to balance risks and the growth of the balance sheet, to divide bank funding sources into core deposits and managed liabilities, and to understand the bank income statement and balance sheet. This should train students at formulating strategically appropriate solutions to complex and unfamiliar challenges. Students should also improve their management and organizational skills. They should communicate with other students and collaborate within an intercultural team. They should be able to interpret financial indicators, present those to an audience and critically assess their peers’ results.
The course is entirely based on the Cesim Bank Simulation game. Students are asked to form groups and to play the role of a bank manager. Teams will be responsible for taking decisions in various business and operational areas. Success will be measured and benchmarked by both operational and financial key indicators including assets under management, deposit and credit product growth, bank image, risk metrics, return on assets, return on equity, etc. The ultimate indicator in the game is the total shareholder return p.a., which consolidates all the key success factors into one measure criterion. Beyond the participation in the game, students will communicate with their team mates, will assess their own and other teams’ results and will present their key results in reports or in front of the audience.
