Familiarity with classical sociological concepts and theories is useful, though not mandatory.
The main objective of this master-level course in digital sociology is to deepen students’ knowledge of sociological evolution in the digital age. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the tools to understand and analyse social change, enabling them to read and interpret past and future political, cultural, and economic phenomena. Additionally, the course will enhance students’ critical thinking skills by engaging with various aspects of digital society and through the examination of case studies.
This master-level course explores the profound impact of digital technologies on society through a sociological lens. Students will examine the historical context and growth of digital technology, media evolution, and the characteristics of information society. Key areas of focus include digital identity, sociality, participatory culture, labour, power dynamics, big data ethics, and digital inequality. The course encompasses all main aspects of society—culture, economy, and politics—providing a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies shapes and transforms social structures and interactions.
