Awareness of and interest for the legal dimension of business transactions, especially dispute settlement;
Fluency in English (and basic knowledge of legal English, or active willingness to learn it during the course);
Basic/general knowledge of business and law (from prior courses).

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
Understand what arbitration is
Recognize similarities, differences and relationship between arbitration, other ADRs, and court decisions
Understand the difference between ad hoc and administered arbitration
Recognize which types of disputes can be submitted to international arbitration
Understand which are the circumstances where resorting to arbitration is appropriate
Choosing the proper arbitration clause in a contract
Be able to comprehend an arbitral award.
