At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
– understand the role of new technologies in companies,
– describe the latest trends in ICT,
– understand the Gartner Hype cycle, and
– should see the importance of technologies to companies in specific industries.
– Have greater awareness about ESRS topics such as: planned obsolescence and website visitor tracking practices.

Although selling and buying on the Internet is one important part of the latest IT trends, other new technologies are also studied.
First, we study the latest technologies used within the company (such as RFID-tags, augmented reality, 3D printing and scanning, prediction markets, Big Data and advergames) and technologies used across companies (such as Vendor Managed Inventory). We play the online version of the Beergame to show the value of inter-organisational computer systems. We also shortly investigate the impact of technologies on society-level. We study how innovations can be made in every component of a business model.
Secondly, we investigate the technologies that are used in specific industries. Students make group presentations about a specific industry. The industries that were studied last year were Hotels, Music, Newspapers and books, Shoes, Toys and Games, TV and sports, Airlines, Banking, Clothing and Furniture. Students get the material that was presented last year by other students and can build on top of that. Finally, the students have to write a report about trends they noticed across the different industries.
Thirdly, key theories are derived through case studies, such as the implantation of RFID tags in the Baja Beach Dance Club.
